Director, Equal Opportunity & Discrimination Prevention Office
Ricardo Alcaíno is the Director for the Equal Opportunity & Discrimination Prevention Office. As Director, Ricardo is responsible for sustaining and strengthening the University's faculty and staff affirmative action personnel program, in addition to having compliance oversight of University non-discrimination policies for staff and faculty. Ricardo oversees the development and distribution of the UCSB Affirmative Action Plan, and works with senior administrators, department chairs, and directors to ensure that UCSB complies with university, State, and Federal policies and regulations regarding affirmative action and equal opportunity in hiring and promoting staff and faculty. Additionally, Ricardo is a Campus liaison to the Office of the President, as well as State and Federal regulatory agencies regarding these matters.
Ricardo has over 25 years of experience in conducting discrimination and harassment complaint investigations, in developing and delivering diversity and sexual harassment education and training, and in developing and implementing affirmative action plans and non-discrimination policies. Ricardo earned an M.P.A., with Pi Alpha Alpha honors, from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from California State University Fullerton. Ricardo previously served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Employment Practices at California State University Monterey Bay, and also directed and/or staffed similar programs at the City of Santa Cruz and the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Equal Opportunity Analyst
Lia Cabello started her career at UCSB in 2006 as the Workers' Compensation Coordinator, in the Business Services office. In 2008, Lia became the Executive Assistant to the Chair in Chemical Engineering before taking on the position as the Equal Employment Opportunity Analyst in 2014. Lia's primary responsibility as the Equal Employment Opportunity Analyst is to oversee and assist with the University's application and administration of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) policies and procedures within the Academic Recruitment process. Lia also coordinates, develops, and delivers diversity training campus wide. Lia is very passionate about her community involvement on campus. She has served on the Chancellor's Staff Advisory Council from 2010-2013 and co-chaired the committee from 2011-2012. Lia is also involved in the Gaucho U coordination and its outreach projects such as Summer Recess and Gaucho Wellness Committee, and in UCSB's PWA (President 2015-2016) Outside of her campus life, Lia enjoys spending time with her family, dogs, hiking, beach walks and travel.
